Woven Wood Shades
Woven wood shades (also known as "bamboo shades", "matchstick shades" or "natural shades") offer a striking look bringing a sense of the outdoors into a room. These shades have evolved and changed since the 1970’s versions, with styling emphasizing a greater array of natural grass, reeds and bamboo fabrics without the garish woven threads of years past. The new woven woods fabrics reflect a softer feeling blend of materials as well while still providing distinctive textures and color that make the product more attractive and visually interesting.
Woven woods are most popular as roman-style shades and are available in many of the same basic styles. When the lifting mechanism is in front of the shade, a matching valance conceals the operating mechanism. Iris always recommends lining this valance to avoid a “moiré” effect with the underlying shade. These shades can also have the lifting mechanism behind the shade with no valance for a very clean, modern look. The drawback with this style is that the edge of the shade may be abraded by use unless it is a motorized shade.
Privacy and room-darkening liners increase light blockage and offer a neutral outside appearance. These liners may be attached to the woven wood fabric or provided as a separate shade with its own operating system.
