Bedrooms usually utilize a room-darkening window treatment and they are also used in other rooms that house collectible art, books or antiques, or theatre-style media rooms. There is a considerable difference between window treatments that are room-darkening and that are blackout. While room-darkening window coverings allow for a tranquil, shaded ambience in the room with very minimal light; true blackout window coverings should allow no light into the room at all. One of the most popular misconceptions is that a blackout fabric will provide a true blackout situation. In reality, while the fabric itself is blackout, there is always some slight light leakage around the window covering. While adding side channel, sill channel and a pocket to a motorized blackout shade will minimize the amount of light leakage, it will not totally eliminate it. Iris can, however, provide a true blackout system; please give us a telephone call to discuss this option.

  • Installation of a motorized blackout shade into a metal pocket with side channel and sill channel will achieve a true blackout in any room.
